Are you planning to buy a car in India? Do you know the different types of cars in Indian market? Then the next question would be what type of car should I buy? i.e. How to find out which car is right for you.
If these questions start bothering you then read this article and let me know whether it is useful or not. I came across all these questions and found my own answers after a lot of research. In our country people buy a car based on the purchasing power and accordingly you can categorize the cars. But based on car built, generally you can broadly divide the cars in 4 types - Hatchback, SUV, Sedan and MUVs.

Now driving need means what kind of driving you are going to do after purchasing the vehicle as you can't do anything with any car. Like if you are a long drive lover then a hatchback can't serve your purpose. You have to buy a minimum SUV. Again if you have a big family then you must need an MUV.

When I have decided to buy a car I have already decided my budget range first and then started looking at the cars. Although it may not be 100% true but everyone has a budget range in the back of their mind while choosing a car irrespective of the actual driving need. Now driving need means what kind of driving you are going to do after purchasing the vehicle as you can't do anything with any car. Like if you are a long drive lover then a hatchback can't serve your purpose. You have to buy a minimum SUV. Again if you have a big family then you must need an MUV.
I need a car with which I can drive to the office, travel the weekend short tours with my family and other regular city traffic drives. And for that need a hatchback car is the perfect match. As the size of hatchback is small, you can easily handle it in the city traffic, park easily and also drive easily. Now let's talk about all different types of cars in Indian market.
So generally there are broadly 4 segments of Cars in Indian and Global market. Right now you can forget about the types for BMW, Ferrari etc. :) Anyway we are talking about the Cars of various segments that most of the people generally buy as a first Car in India.

1) Hatchback: This is the segment where most people are capable of dreaming a Car and in fact this is the ideal Car for the Indian conditions. These Cars are mainly designed to travel in city conditions for daily life travel. Now this segment can also be further divided into many sub-segments based on price tag and power.
Examples: Maruti Alto, 800, Swift, Hyundai i10, i20, EON. Honda Brio, Ford Figo, Chevrolet Spark, Beat etc.

2) SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle): This car will look huge and create a road presence with sporty look & feel. Generally people who love driving long distance, challenging roads, adventures etc. opt for this segment. These Cars are very strong in built, powerful and look sporty. Seating capacity is 5 person. Having a car of this segment will differentiate your character from others.

3) Sedan Class: Sedan Cars are mostly preferred for their luxury seating and comfortable journey experience. Although max seating capacity is 5 people only, but due to it's longer built, it provides more interior space with comfort. This segment has the maximum boot space, so for a family love to travel frequently with many luggage, Sedan is the best Car.
