Arguably the most sensible offering in the MINI line-up. The standard MINI hatchback will be available for the first time with five doors.
OVER the past decade, the MINI line-up has expanded rapidly with an array of new models with different bodystyles on offer. Ranging from the standard MINI, to the Roadster and the Countryman. MINI customers are quite simply spoilt for choice.
The latest new addition to the MINI line-up is the standard MINI for the first time available in a five-door variant. It sits on MINI's UKL platform, which has a longer wheelbase that's 72mm longer than the three-door MINI. As seen, the five-door hatch does look noticeably larger than it.
Engines and trims should pretty much be identical to the three door MINI. With Cooper, Cooper D and Cooper S models, though there should be some Works models in the pipeline as well. Prices for the five door start from £15,910 for the entry-level Cooper model.
I can't help think that this MINI looks like a Countryman, but without the jacked up ride height. Forget the looks. It's a more practical propoistion for those doting MINI owners who have outgrown the standard car, and still want a MINI. Suppose that's why they sold a lot of Countrymen.
I believe the new MINI will be a big seller - especially in the UK. That can only be a good thing for those that screw the MINIs together at the assembly line in Cowley. It'll be good for Britain's car industry.

With competition tougher in the segment of small cars, the new MINI will be direct competition for the Audi A1. Out of the premium and customisable small cars on the market, the A1 is the only car the segment to make a five door variant. That's until this five door MINI comes on sale, and that will give the little Audi some stiff competition.
