IT'S always debated on what makes someone a true petrol head. Should they own a classic car? Be part of an owner's club? Should they drive a fast car? Should they race cars at Santa Pod or on the Silverstone race circuit?
Jeremy Clarkson will tell you that you aren't a true petrolhead unless you've owned an Alfa Romeo. But that's just his theory on what makes a true petrolhead. Whether or not you've owned an Alfa, you're no less of a petrolhead anyway. The thing is, you can't define a true petrolhead.
It doesn't matter what age you are or what job you have. It doesn't matter what car you drive may it be a Ford or a Ferrari. Or one with a petrol or a diesel engine. It doesn't matter how many motoring events you attend. It doesn't matter what motoring magazines you read if it's: Practical Classics, Fast Car, What Car? or Evo.
We all like different types of cars old and new. Whether it's sports cars, hot hatches, luxury saloons, supercars or 4x4s. The fact is, everybody likes different things and it's no different with cars. Trust me, the world would be a boring place if we all liked the same things wouldn't it?
What makes a petrolhead all stems down to this. Regardless of it being a young boy racer with a modified hot hatch, or an old man with a pristine classic. They both have a mutual interest and appreciation of cars. They're both petrolheads, but they're both different down to their type of cars.
At the end of the day, if you love cars. Then you ARE a petrolhead. It's as simple as that.
