UK Car production success

Britain's car industry is booming up and down the country and Definitely Motoring celebrates.

SOME may tell you that Britain has no car industry anymore and that it’s a sad state of affairs. Granted in the truest sense. There’s no domestically owned British manufacturer these days that makes cars for the mass market. There hasn’t been since MG Rover collapsed in 2005.

But to say there’s no car industry is nonsense. In fact, car manufacturing in the UK is on the up and this can only be great news.

Jaguar Land Rover

Since being under Tata, sales of Jaguar and Land Rover’s cars have increased year on year. With successful cars like the XF and the Range Rover Evoque, there has been huge demand for the cars. Not just in the UK, but across the pond in America and China.

The result has been more jobs being created. Not only in Halewood, Solihull and Castle Bromwich, but also with a new engine plant in Wolverhampton that's in the pipeline. It has been reported that Jaguar Land Rover have made a £1.5billion profit.

Nissan

Nissan's factory in Washington, near Sunderland in Tyne and Wear, has been a success. To date, over 6 million vehicles have been manufactured since the factory opened in 1986, it's grown to be one of the biggest and most efficient car plants in Britain and Western Europe.

The Qashqai (pictured) has been a runaway success for Nissan, with over a million cars rolling off the production line. With production being outstripped by demand, this has also created more jobs.

Vauxhall

For the past few years, there has been uncertainty over the future of the Ellesmere Port plant. There was a point when Vauxhall's parent company, General Motors were in deep trouble that lead to the American government bailing them out.

The General has turned things round though. With the recent news of them giving the  upcoming Ampera, and the next generation Astra the green light to be made in Ellesmere Port. As a result, 2,800 jobs have been secured for Vauxhall's employees.

Elsewhere...

There has also been good news at the Honda, Toyota and MINI plants in Swindon, Derbyshire and Cowley. Toyota and Honda have recovered from the earthquake in Japan which temporarily affected their supply chain. The MINI plant in Cowley also had a job boost with the new MINI Coupe being added to the MINI range.

To sum it all up, this is great news for Britain under these tough times. Particularly as there are many out there who are wanting jobs. Manufacturing could well be one of the solutions for the nation getting out of the mess it's in.
